What is Animal Cruelty?
Firstly, how do I define cruelty?
Animal cruelty comes in so many forms - to me cruelty starts with simply ignoring your pet, give no attention or affection to starving, locking them out in the heat/cold with no shelter, or abandoning them on the side of the road. - this is the neglect side of animal cruelty.
We then have people who beat their pets, who organise dog fights using other dogs, cats or small animals to get the bloodlust starting. There are some sick people out there who deliberately aim to hurt animals and it hurts me so much to know that humans can be so cruel.
There are kids learning from their parents - I saw a picture of kids in the back seat of a car with a small dog strung up and they were laughing. The dog wasn’t enjoying the experience and that makes me so angry. How dare adults teach such horrible things that kids think its ok to do that.?????
Many a serial killer has sprung from a childhood of being cruel to animals - its not good for kids and certainly not for the animals.
The next kind of cruelty baffles me beyond words - I see it on Facebook and Instagram often - the people for/against Poaching./Trophy Hunting.
Governments, especially in the African continent but also in places like Canada - a country I consider quite civilised- the allow hunting of certain species, including polar bears and the grizzly bears in some cases. This is just not on.
Many excuses come out, culling being one but it is one thing to shoot an animal humanely to keep numbers down and another, entirely, to trap them and terrorise them before killing them. Then, to add insult to injury, they pose with them in various positions proudly showing their catch.
In Africa, with some National Parks having protection for the wild animals and some have safaris for people, like us,, to visit them in their natural environment. People cannot legally come on these lands and hunt the animals however I am sure some have done so. A story not long ago of poachers hunting rhino were eaten by lions in a park. Karma, I say, however this doesn’t stop these people. Families taking small kids out to kill our wild animals in their own habitats is horrifying. Getting a family photo with a kill is beyond my comprehension. Good ol’ President Trump has now allowed hunters to bring their “trophies” home and this ridiculous obsession many Americans have with this right to bare arms and hunting is just disgraceful.
The obvious solution, one would think, is to punish the perpetrators and hit them where it hurts and throw them in jail- ideally sharing a cell with a passionate animal-loving “Mr Big” who will deal out their own form of justice. I, personally, would love an eye for an eye.. give the person who hurts the animal the same back - but sadly our laws don’t permit that.
Jail might be a deterrent for some but it has to be the norm, not just in especially bad cases but all convicted animal abusers should be jailed. We often see they are not permitted to own an animal for xxx of years.. how can they police that? They move in with someone with an animal or a new g/friend or boyfriend gets a pet and that animal does something to annoy them and whammo! The cycle starts again. Most judges, however, are just too soft on animal abusers and animal cruelty cases - they cant even put the victims of murdering humans away for a suitable sentence so I have not got hope for justice for our animals.
What is your stance? Will you stand up for your animals and other animals? Could you take a stand against someone hurting an animal? It wouldn’t be easy, granted but unless we stop these people and educate our kids, animals are just not safe in the big wild world.
That doesn’t sit well with me.
If you hate it as well, give your pets a hug, treat them well and pass this on to others that have pets. Lets look after our animals, treat them well, most of us treat them like family and many spoil them more than they do the kids!
